As per the Halal Accreditation Authority, Color 120 (Carmine), derived from the cochineal insect, is considered HALAL suitable for some Islamic schools of thought, specifically the Shafi school.

For followers of other schools, such as the Hanafi school, which considers the use of insects impermissible, we recommend consulting with your religious authority before consuming these products.
